Commonly Asked Open Gym Questions:

1.      If I sign up, how many days per week can I come in?

You can come in as many days as you’d like, but I usually recommend 3 days per week for novices and 4 days per week for more advanced lifters

2.      How do you train at Southland?

I like to focus on barbell, dumbbell, kettlebell, strongman and body weight exercises.  I do have a few machines, but we use those sparingly.  Training at Southland means you are going to train the old school way.

3.      Is it Crossfit?

No, I am not Crossfit.  Some of the conditioning workouts I use for my weight loss clients are Crossfit inspired, but almost all the workouts used in my gym have been created by me.  I have developed specific workouts for specific needs; as opposed to Crossfit, which is more focused on general fitness.

4.      Do you give me a routine to follow?

Yes, I do.  As I stated in question #3, I have developed all my routines to meet certain demands of specific populations.  All my training routines are planned out in either 10, 12, or 16 week cycles.

5.      Will you be instructing me or is that just for your session clients?

If you’re hurt, you can’t exercise so client safety is always a priority.  I always instruct my clients on proper form, proper loading, etc. when they first begin working out with me.

6.      Do you give me a diet to follow?

I have diet information available to give to all my clients.  While I can’t make a specific meal plan for you, I have purchased and used quite a few different diet plans over the course of my career.

7.      If I’m not an athlete can I still come in on Saturdays if I missed one of my workouts during the week?

Yes you can, but if you are not a session client or an athlete it will cost you $15 per session.

Commonly Asked Semi-Private/Session Questions:

1.      If I sign up, how many days per week can I come in?

4.      I have never worked out before or I haven’t worked out in a long time, how hard are the workouts going to be?

I have routines ranging from very easy to incredibly difficult, everyone starts out where their level of fitness dictates.  I can promise you that I won’t try to kill you the first day you come in.  You will progress as fast as YOU can.

5.      Do you give me a routine to follow?

Yes, I do.  As I stated in question #3, I have developed all my routines to meet certain demands of specific populations.  All my training routines are planned out in either 10, 12, or 16 week cycles.

8.      Why should I pay more for semi-private training?

While I do offer a lot of the same things to my session and open gym clients, there are a few stark differences.  Semi-private sessions can be scheduled at a time of your convenience.  I make my schedule around yours, not the other way around.  I always try to limit the number of clients to a max of 5 during a semi-private session.  During my busy season in the afternoon, I can have up to 15 people in the gym at once.  The coaching is much more focused in the semi-private sessions also.  Watching 5 people is much easier than watching 10.

9.      Who will be training with me during my sessions?

All of my semi-private clients are former chain gym members (Porky’s, LA Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness, etc.) who got fed up with working out in those dumps and decided to hire someone who could help them achieve their goals.
